in Sports Bar, American, Pizza

The Other Place was started in 1970 on “College Hill” in Cedar Falls, Iowa and was primarily a college bar that served and delivered pizza. In 1997, a new era for The Other Place began in Overland Park, Kansas, a suburb of Kansas City. A new concept called, The Other Place, American Sports Grill and Pizzeria, was created by combining specific elements of the Iowa O.P.’s and Pepper’s Grill and Sports Pub. Very family friendly!

Every location smokes all of their meats on-site at the restaurant the same way it was done in 1941. Dickey's serves up beef brisket, pulled pork, ham, polish sausage, turkey breast and chicken, with an extensive array of home-style sides from jalapeño beans to macaroni and cheese. Buttery rolls are served with every meal along with the complimentary ice cream and dill pickles. And just like always, kids eat free on Sunday.

in Spirits, German, All

Authentic Germanic cuisine is finally being offered in the heart of Kansas City. Peter Grünauer, his son Nicholas, and long-time friend and Viennese restauranteur Klaus Piber have collaborated in order to open a namesake Viennese Gasthaus in the historic Freight House. The restaurant is the second iteration of the family’s popular & long-lived restaurant of the same name in Vienna’s artsy Neubau neighborhood, & they hope to bring much of the same inspired Austrian cooking & atmosphere to KC!

La Bodega

La Bodega

in Tapas, Spanish

In Spain, Tapas are almost always accompanied by wine. They are not so much about talking as they are about eating and drinking. The wine is the medium that holds the conversation with friends and the food together. You make time to enjoy the moment in an unhurried way. The threefold purpose of snacking on tapas is to dull any hunger pangs that have built up since the previous intake of comestibles, to whet the appetite for the next, and to stimulate sociability, at which the Spanish excel.
